Audrey McCooeye
The family of Audrey McCooeye announce the passing of our matriarch, Ma, Grandma and Great-Grandma in her 101st year. Friend to so many, loyal supporter of all things family with strong determination and will, she worked several jobs before becoming a civil servant with the RCMP for more than 25 years. Retirement saw her as caregiver to her late sister Isobelle and avid game player, whether it be euchre, hearts, or scrabble. She instilled a love of friendly competition in everyone. No one wished to be "grammatized" during card and board games as they were sure to lose. Famous for her more-than-one word clues for Cue Me, Password, ability to pick all vowels in Scrabble and to hold on to the "Bob" forever when playing Trouble.
During her lifetime over 100 family, friends and others needing a landing space, boarded with her at her home in downtown Ottawa. A staunch supporter of First United, she enjoyed her many friends there and the TGIF group especially. Always available to lend a hand to others she was proud of her independence and fortitude. She rode the City bus or walked everywhere until her eyesight faded. Most recently she saw the Sault McCooeye grandkids through university having a strong relationship with her neighbours, her children,
grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sunday night suppers and holiday meals for family was standard procedure and extras were always welcome.
Audrey was predeceased by her husband Harry, her son Roy, her grandson Shadrach, her brothers Patrick and Duane (late Edith) Gore and her sister Isobelle Gore. She is survived by her sons Eric (Susan) and Timothy (Heather) and her brother Malcolm Gore (Darlene). Loving Grandma of Diane Kapfer-McCooeye (Mark), Trina McCooeye, Mary McCooeye (Tony), Luke McCooeye (Shannon). Great-Grandma of Kayla Wall (Aly), Cody and Ella Wall and Zach Kapfer. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
