Obituary

Donald Grant Ferguson

Donald Grant Ferguson passed away on January 31, 2025, at the McCall Rehab Centre in Etobicoke after a brief illness, at the age of 91. He was born in Winchester on September 19, 1933, the eldest son of Jean and David Ferguson and spent his childhood in Avonmore.
At a young age, Donald ventured to Geraldton for work, eventually pursuing a career as a truck driver. Although he spent many years away from his childhood home, he often returned to visit, especially later in life when his regular truck routes took him to New Brunswick. Originally from a small town, he ultimately settled in the vibrant city of Mississauga, where he lived for most of his life.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Douglas Dwayne, John David, and Kenneth David. Donald is survived by his sisters Lois (Bernie) Robertson, Ila (Blaine) McElheran, nephews Scott Robertson and Shawn (Janice) McElheran, and nieces Karen (Bryan) Moran and Lana (Alex) LeBlanc. He is also lovingly remembered by his great-nieces and great-nephews.
In his later years, Donald was a quiet man who preferred solitude, but he held great significance for many individuals. He enjoyed engaging in lively discussions about politics, the economy, and his beloved Toronto Blue Jays. His absence will be profoundly felt by friends in Mississauga and beyond, particularly by his neighbor Susan, his close friend Anna from Poland, Peggy, and numerous acquaintances.  He will be particularly missed by his step-daughter Karen Wallace Kearney, who spent part of her formative years with him and will always carry him in her heart.
Donald will be laid to rest alongside his brothers and parents at Paul's Hill. Memorial Donations to Dundas Manor or Maxville Manor would be appreciated by the family.   If you are making your donation online or by cheque directly to the charity, please include the following note with your gift "please notify the family".  Online condolences may be made at marsdenmclaughlin.com.
