Obituary

Donald "Wally" Watson

June 10,1943 - August 28, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Donald "Wally" Watson of Cardinal announce his passing suddenly at home, Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the age of 82.

Beloved husband of Trudy (Cook) for 58 years.  Loving father of Cheryl McIntosh (Lance) of Brockville and Kimberly Hutton (Jason) of Oxford Station.  Treasured grandfather to Landon, Brooke, Harper, and Kendyll.

Loving brother to Rosalie Rice (the late Eric Rice) of Ingleside and Anita Allinotte (Bob) of Alexandria. Brother-in-law to Sheldon Cook of Johnstown.  Also survived by a niece and many nephews. Predeceased by his brothers Groulx, Roger, and parents, William and Elizabeth Watson (nee Legroulx) and stepmother Eva Watson (nee McLean).

Donald was born June 10, 1943, in Bainsville, Ontario. Upon the tragic passing of his mother and brother the family moved multiple times before residing in Cardinal, where Don's dad worked as a section foreman for CN rail. Don would marry Trudy Cook whom he met while working at her uncle Cecil Cook's grocery store in Cardinal. Don, also known as "Wally", was employed at CASCO Inc. where he worked as a machinist from 1966 until his retirement in 2006.

Over the years, Don participated in many sports including broomball and blooper ball. He was a long-time member of the Iroquois Golf Club and could still shoot a good game of pool!  Don always enjoyed getting together with family and friends and will forever be remembered for his kind and generous heart, great sense of humour, and easy-going nature.

Visitation will be Thursday September 18th from 7-9pm at Marsden McLaughlin funeral home in Cardinal.  Visitation will continue Friday September 19th at 10am, followed by the funeral service at 11am, and internment at the St. Johns Cemetery in Cardinal immediately thereafter. A celebration of Don's life will be held afterwards at the Cardinal Legion, and all are invited. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or The War Amps would be gratefully acknowledged by family. If you are making your donation online or by cheque directly to the charity, please include the following note with your gift: "please notify the family."  Online condolences may be made at marsdenmclauglin.com.
