Obituary

Lois Smith

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lois Irene Smith (nee McDermid) on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at the age of 90.  Beloved wife of the late Glendon Smith.  Loving mother of Lynn (Danielle) and Donna Lee (Mike).   Lois will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Melissa (Matt), Patrick (Jaimie), Michelle (Julien) and Dominique (Brodie) and her 7 great-grandchildren Olivia, Hailey, Emma, Riley, Madison, Levi and Beau. She was also special grandmother to Treacey, Samantha, Sinead and their families.  Dear sister-in-law of June McDermid.  She was predeceased by her parents Dalton & Dorothy McDermid (nee Clement) and her brother Lyal McDermid.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friendly and outgoing, she also leaves behind many good friends and acquaintances. She will be missed.
Born and raised on Ashburn Rd (Berwick), she lived her adult life in the Finch area. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an avid and knowledgeable gardener, immensely enjoyed the cottage and visiting neighbours at Ault Island, was an active member of Finch UCW for many years and was a proud 50 year member of the Eastern Star. She served as treasurer for 30 years at Chalmers United Church (Finch) into her late 80's and also delivered Meals on Wheels into her 80's.  In recent years she took great pleasure in dining at local restaurants (Winchester, Chesterville, Crysler, Finch). She particularly enjoyed Fat Les's in Finch, where the staff treated her like royalty.
