Obituary

Robert Thomas "Tom" Owers

Peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, with his loving family by his side. Tom Owers of Cardinal at the age of 85. Dearly beloved husband of the late Barbara Owers (nee Barkley). Loving father of Kelly Sullivan (the late Dean Sullivan) and Robert Owers. Predeceased by his parents Art and Mae Owers, his sisters Patricia Ferguson and Barbara McGrady, brothers Donald Owers and Bernie Owers. Loving Bampy of Courtney (Lucien Ouellette), Ryan Sullivan (Brittanie), Carley (Kyle Lavery), and Jody Sullivan (Kaitlyn), and Great-Bampy of Lane, Vayda, Quinn, William, Wren, Odin, and Finnley. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.  Tom spent many years working at Best Foods and volunteering on the Cardinal fire department.

He also worked as a long-distance truck driver with Kriska Transportation. He loved life on the open road and took great pride in his work. Driving wasn't just a job to Tom—it was something he genuinely enjoyed. Even after retirement, if someone needed a ride, whether it was across town or across the province, Tom was always ready to grab the keys and go. No distance ever seemed too far when it meant helping someone he loved.

Family was the centre of Tom's world. When he wasn't on the road or supporting his grandchildren at their sporting events he could be found at the Cardinal rink, cheering from the stands, coaching in his younger days or keeping his beloved wife company at the canteen.  Known affectionately as "Bampy," to his grandkids and all their friends. Tom was a kind, devoted, and selfless man who made everyone feel important. He was generous with his time, quick with a compliment, and endlessly proud of his family. He never missed an opportunity to tell them they were beautiful, how proud he was of them, or simply how much he loved them.  Tom's legacy is not measured by the miles he drove or the years he worked, but by the love, kindness, and unwavering devotion he gave so freely to his family. His warmth, generosity, gentle sense of humour, and steadfast presence will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and carried forward by all who were fortunate enough to know him.  Tom's love he shared with them will continue to be felt for generations.
